Going vegetarian has its perks: sparing animals, reducing famine, and saving money to name a few. Unfortunately, finding a restaurant that has an abundance of tasty vegetarian options is not one of them. Many restaurants have vegetarian and vegan-friendly options on their menu, but the offerings are minimal and oftentimes unimaginative. In an effort to help our vegetarian eaters navigate through the murky waters of dining out, we whipped up this guide to eating at Sammy’s (for vegetarians).
Vegetarian Tapas at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza
Kick-off your meal at Sammy’s with one of our Mediterranean-style tapas like Baba Ghanoush or Lebni—both served with grilled herb flatbread (or lettuce for gluten-free diners). Baba Ghanoush is a traditional Levantine dish comprised of roasted eggplant, onion, herbs, spices and extra virgin olive oil. Lebni is a soft Mediterranean cheese that we serve with tomatoes, exotic spices and extra virgin olive oil.
We also highly recommend the Parmesan Crusted Artichokes and Wok’d Sesame Shishito Peppers. The Parmesan Crusted Artichokes are served with a creamy herb dressing and goat cheese. The Shishito Peppers are sesame-grilled and served with an Asian-style sesame dipping sauce.
Vegetarian Pizzas at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza
We have a large selection of vegetarian pizzas here at Sammy’s—all made from locally sourced food and products from artisan merchants. For those craving a more traditional pizza pie, we recommend a simple but classic Margherita Pizza with tomato and basil. If you’re feeling slightly adventurous, a Goat Cheese Pizza might delight your vegetarian sensibilities. This pizza is topped with sautéed mushroom, garlic, organic spinach and red onion. For the adventurous vegetarian diner, we recommend the Yummy Honey Cheese pizza—a savory and sweet thin crust pizza with mild sheep’s milk cheese, organic oregano and fragrant orange blossom honey.
Vegetarian Entrees at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza
Although we love our artisan pizzas, we have other gourmet items to offer our vegetarian diners. If you’re craving something light but flavorful, check out our Red Quinoa salad with golden beets, tomatoes, avocado, red onion, wild arugula, parsley, almonds, mint, scallions and served with a Citrus Chili Vinaigrette. Load up on veggies with our colorful Chilled Roasted Vegetable dish comprised of organic spinach, fresh mozzarella, edamame, artichoke, yellow tomato, red bell pepper, red onion, fresh organic basil, lemon and served with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. For the best of savory and sweet, try the Calimyrna Fig and Gorgonzola Flatbread topped with sweet caramelized onion and organic spinach.
