MyDailyFind.com – May 8, 2012 – By Karen Young - Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill is opening tomorrow, May 10, in Studio City at Laurel Canyon and Ventura Blvd in the old Louise’s location on the second floor of the corner strip mall that also houses the Daily Grill , Loteria Grill and Total Woman Gym (working out and eating out has never been easier!). The restaurant has been busy this week offering the community free lunches as a “welcome to neighborhood” hello. This is the 18th location for the San Diego based restaurant that also has locations in Nevada, Palm Desert and El Segundo. According to owner Sami Ladeki all the locations look different based on where they are located. The 818 location has a mod, urban feel with warm colors and accomodates approximately 140 people, including patio seating. In addition to three types of pizza cooked in a woodfired stone oven (in an open kitchen), Sammy’s menu reads like a palate pleasing fusion of offerings, including a wide range of tapas, grilled and sauteed items, entrees and more — at very moderate prices. The recipes are globally inspired with a good choice of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. There’s also a bar area, as well as waiting area for take-out. Free parking. 12050 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, (818) 762-3330

Pacific San Diego Magazine | May 2012 – A friend who suffers from Celiac disease, or gluten intolerance described an attack as “feeling like I ate ground glass.” Not nice. Also not nice: no pizza, since crusts contain wheat flour, a no-no for riders on the Celiac Express. To the rescue: San Diego’s home grown Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, which serves a full gluten-free menu that puts pizza poppers back in business. When a pie arrives (let it be pepperoni with fresh organic oregano, mozzarella and really good tomato sauce), you”L’l immediately notice the crust is pancake-flat, but it bakes up crisp and sure tastes good. The many savory options promoted a host to exclaim, “Our gluten-free food rocks!” – D.N

UTSanDiego.com – March 6th, 2012 – By Michelle Dederko – Some choose a gluten-free lifestyle based on a personal preference, while others require it for health concerns. If you’re not familiar with this nemesis of many sufferers, gluten is the name for the storage protein found in grains. It shows up in pastas and breads and can make dining anywhere turn into an ordeal.

While it sounds difficult to cut out the pizza parties or avoid Little Italy’s finest restaurants, gluten-free options are (finally) becoming more mainstream. As many of our San Diego restaurants are offering fresh, organic, and whole foods on their menus, you can now leave your own kitchen behind and have a night dining out on the town, no holds barred.

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza: Pizza has never looked so good, and now it’s good for you, too. The chef at Sammy’s has trained his kitchen staff to know the ins and out of gluten-free preparation, making sure the menu is contamination-free. The selection features gluten-free tapas such as Baba Ghanoush and Hummus with garbanzo beans, lemon, tahini and garlic dip, served with hearts of romaine. For fresh, light options choose from a gluten-free Oak Roasted Chicken Breast, Grilled Chicken Wrap, Chilled Roasted Vegetable Salad, Grilled Shrimp Salad, or Fresh Organic Beets and Arugula Salad. Of course, there are pizza options for the gluten-free eater, including Brie Cheese with Truffle Oil Pizza, LaDou’s Barbeque Chicken Pizza, or a favorite Redwood Hill Farms Smoked Goat Cheddar Pizza. Leave on a sweet note with classic Cotton Candy dusted with cocoa powder. For more information, visit sammyspizza.com

Pacific San Diego Magazine | Aug 2011 – Slices may be the name of the game at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, but their aptly-named Messy Sundae is legendary. Served in a 22-ounce glass, the confection is a decadent eruption of caramel and chocolate syrups. The sticky-sweet, walnut-studded behemoth’s been on the menu since Sammy’s opened its first locaion in 1989.
